Colorado Vintage Engagement Shoot

Tuesday, May 17, 2011  //  by Amber Mustain  //  Post a comment (0)
I was asked by Kathyn Bacalis Photography to join her on an adventureous engagement shoot. It required finding a free upright piano  and then hauling it from Denver to on open field in Greenland, CO.  Her couple was absolutely amazing and such troopers because it was pretty cold that day. I loved the way everything came out. The lighting was perfect and Kathryn really got some amazing shots of the couple.

Creating flowers for a shoot is a lot of fun for me because I have more freedom to really create. I love finding unique items to incorporate into the design. When I went to the wholesaler the dogwood was amazing and I thought it would add a vintage feel. I also found some colorado-grown ranunculus that had a rich, antique coloring to it that was so pretty!

I created the banner out of old sheet music I found at a local music store and I found the red burlap at a fabric store. I antiqued each pennant with dye. I love the way it came out.

I hope you enjoy this shoot as much as I did!

I had the opportunity to work with two amazing professionals to put together one AWESOME Colorado Winter Wedding inspiration shoot!

Carly Mitchell was behind the camera and Mary from mkgraces was behind the special vintage touches. I designed the flowers and love the way everything turned out! What a beautiful, cold day in Vail, Colorado.

Thank you Carly and Mary for doing such an amazing job! To see more amazing pictures of the day visit

I have had the pleasure of knowing Karie for 2 years now. We first worked together on wedding in the Spring of 2008. Karie Mclain is an amazingly creative photographer. Your pictures are going to be truely unique to your personality and a work of art! She is fun and easy to work with. I would highly recommend her for your wedding day! Check out her video below. Beautiful Expressions provided the flowers for the shoot. They were a mix of blues, purples, and hot pinks-anenomes, roses, blue thistle, ranuculus, delphinium, and dusty miller.
